Twitter BirdToday, a meandering conversation and other musings guided a dialogue that I was having with a friend to the subject of Twitter … and the path it took, and the outcome of this conversation, rather took me by surprise.  A wise, old-school, and rather eminent GP friend of mine, who practises in South Wales, was extolling the virtues of Twitter.  I was at first frankly dismissive and bemused.  But I listened on. To wit, he was championing Tweeting classes above and beyond my wildest imagination.  I have often remarked that the only folks worth their salt and pepper who could Tweet for the general benefit of mankind might be George Bernard Shaw and Oscar Wilde ― both brilliant and avid commentators and wordsmiths.  I can well imagine their Tweets really would raise a daily eyebrow and more.  Where can we find their incisive perceptivity, depth, and wit in Twitterdom today?

My GP friend tells me, “Every Tweet should be as worthy and proclamatory as a Daily Mail newspaper headline”.  Or a Sun headline for that matter, whose headliners have had occasion to achieve iconic status.

And take heed: The good doctor cautioned that every Tweet should be assessed with these questions:
  • Is the content really what you wish your readers to receive?
  • Does the Tweet do you justice?
  • Does the Tweet resonate with the main message you want to get across?
  • Is the Tweet civil, respectful, and definitely not libellous ?
My friend urged me on: “You have so much to say, and the wisdom to extol it… that the content of I’m Afraid of Hypnosis, But I Don’t Know Why, is of such value to people who have questions about hypnosis and therapy, and is ripe for sharing… for Tweeting in fact.  Do it now. I’ll show you …”
